How to Make Your Own Yakiniku Sauce | Recipe

Recipes

I heard a lot of horror stories about store-bought products such as pre-mixed salad dressing(s), pre-mixed sauces, magic cubes and powders… or pretty much any product that guarantees “convenience”.

Most industrial food products are rich in additives. I’m sure you have heard about it. And profit-oriented manufacturers opt using plastic packaging for cost cutting… This is too bad. Lots of health and environmental risks. Tsk tsk!

Asian Santa is now on a mission to search for how to make sauces, dips, dressing(s) so we can once and for all ditch anything toxic out of our grocery lists.

Yes! Doing this may be time consuming but… need I say more?

Yakiniku is how they call grilled meat here in Japan. People usually go to yakiniku restaurants for drinking parties. People would sit on the floor and then there’s a low table with an installed griller in the middle so people can grill their food (beef, pork, sometimes vegetables) while seated comfortably indoors.

Ingredients:

kiwi fruit- half

soy sauce- 2 tbsp

rice wine- 1 tbsp.

honey- 1 tbsp.

black pepper- your preferred amt.

roasted sesame seeds- 1- 2 tsp

sesame oil- 1 tsp

garlic paste- 1/2 tsp

ginger paste- 1/4 tsp

distilled water- 1-2 tsp. (optional)

Procedure:

  1. Grate fresh ginger, garlic and kiwi fruit with a grater plate or a zester.
  2. Measure and combine all the ingredients.

NOTES:

  1. This recipe makes about 100 ml of yakiniku sauce. Good for one sitting (with 2-3 people). Multiply the amount if you wish to throw a yakiniku party.
  2. The sauce may be stored in the fridge for 2-3 days but would be better consumed right away since this is made of natural ingredients.
  3. I really like using my Motoshige Japanese grater plate to make ginger paste. Highly recommended. If you don’t have access to it, a zester can do the same job.
  4. Kiwi fruit may be replaced with grated apples or pineapples. I haven’t tried them yet but maybe they would also taste great.

May you have a great time with friends and family this holiday season!

‘Till next recipe!
